Dolce & Gabbana: Menswear SS27

It’s an absolute scorcher here in Milano, with temperatures nearing 40 degrees. It’s the sort of weather that demands being laid on a beach somewhere, cocktail in hand. Our thirst for a picturesque holibobs was heightened at the Dolce & Gabbana show, where postcard views of Sicily backdropped the catwalk. The island is the hometown of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana and is a constant source of inspiration for the duo. “Sicily is the starting point: the source and soul of a house whose creative expression has always been shaped by the island’s light, culture, contrasts and craft,” read the show notes.

In building their latest offering, the pair wanted to capture the “richly complex character” of the island through garments that danced effortlessly between “structure and spontaneity”. You got the sense that this could be the wardrobe of someone travelling through Sicily, or of a gent who’s been there all his life. There were shredded jeans sprinkled with jewels and denim that came embellished in coral-like embroidery. Looking to turn heads on beach club outing? Those teeny-tiny shorts worn with knitted polo shirts are what you should be copping. A highlight throughout were boxy, cotton shirts that looked as if they were made of lace, achieved through a Broderie Anglaise technique and Miami Vice-style suits. Chuck one of these on and you’ll feel like you’re living la dolce vita.
