Dolce & Gabbana: Light Blue Escape

It’s funny, the concept of a colour having a smell. It’s like a taste having a sound. But the colour light blue does have a smell and it comes in a bottle like this. The smell in question is described by its purveyors as “Mediterranean and masculine” – a description that also matches our Advertising Director Tony funnily enough. However there are also notes of lemon, ginger, cypress and lavender making it sound more like an Italian patio garden than our Advertising Director. You’re probably already familiar with the Light Blue scents – with the image of David Gandy sitting in a small boat wearing nothing but a pair of white briefs if not the scent itself. These however are limited editions that have just been released: Escape to Panarea for women and Vulcano for men. Named after Sicilian islands – the former of which is known as the island of love and the latter for its volcanic activity. (Do we detect a euphemism?) We’re not sure what’s actually in the fragrances that make them smell so divine. Maybe it’s the nectar from a rare wildflower native to Sicily. Or perhaps it’s a pheromone secreted from the glands of a mythical creature rumoured to inhabit the Italian island. We’re speculating. (In case you hadn’t guessed.) But what we’re more sure about is that this fragrance is, to quote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, “Truly scrumptious, scrumptious as the breeze across the bay.”
