When it comes to casting, Dolce and Gabbana ain’t fooling around. Monica Bellucci, Carla Bruni, Isabella Rossellini, Ashley Graham, Karen Elson… Oh, the list goes on and on and on. Since their first collection in 1985, the Italian design duo had already established their aesthetic very clearly. High-glamour, Italian la bomba that’s not shy of wearing a pair of 7-inch heels and a crown to fetch a latte. That is if she was ever fetching her own lattes. She’s our girl, this Dolce woman.
So, when you have such a clear vision of fashion, what is there to do? If the Dolce & Gabbana SS19 show is anything to go by, the answer is: CELEBRATE. Generations of women who wore their clothes came back to the catwalk of Milan Fashion Week to cover themselves in the shiniest of brocades, their chunky gold jewellery glistening in the bright lights, and step into the world, representing all the joie de vivre that lives behind the brand.
Seasons don’t really make a difference when you’re Domenico and Stefano – it’s only the big picture that matters. As each of the beautiful women (and a few men) walked out, one after the other, they each were playing the role of a puzzle piece, creating a total vision of beauty. It’s a lifestyle behind the clothes that was speaking through. Because, who wouldn’t want to be Monica Bellucci in a ruched, bombshell polka-dot dress and a pair of platform sandals? The kind of aspiration that was shown at the Dolce & Gabbana show today is a rarity in this industry. As soon as the finale kicked in, with each superstar lined up after the other, we only had one thing on our minds: we wanna be that D&G woman. And that’s how you can tell it was a good show. Bravo, and off to Paris we go…
