DIOR: ‘SECRET GARDEN- VERSAILLES’ BY INEZ VAN LAMSWEERDE & VINOODH MATADIN
Christian Dior have finally released their much anticipated new film ‘Secret Garden- Versailles’, after teasing us with snippets for the past week or so. Depicting Daria Strokus, Melissa Stasiuk and Xiao Wen Ju in La Galeries Des Glaces, the palace’s endless salons, and as far as the perfectly manicured parkland à la française, all the while chasing the lens of Inez & Vinoodh, as though it were some impossible dream. The choppily edited one minute movie, treats Versailles as much of a character as it does the finely attired group of supers. There is great significance in this location for the house, the association stretching far back to the brands inception. Names of looks in the first collections made direct reference, and in S/S 1955 the couturier baptized his golden embroidery ‘Versailles Gold braid’. What better way to ram a message of heritage home, than re-exploring such an early point of inspiration that remains so well preserved, in breathtakingly cinematic detail? Honestly, It’s left us wheezing at our desks, and longing for some Dior gowns to waft round Golden Square with on our lunch breaks. Should the weather permit.
