Dior: Pre-Fall 2019

If ever stuck on some visual stimulation or just in desperate need for a mid-week pick-me-up, there’s only one solution. Google “Françoise Hardy” and get lost in the wildly fabulous life of the French actress-slash-model-slash-songstress, one that defined the way the world imagines French women and their fashions. And while then scrolling through this endless stream of wondrous inspirations, take note of a particular graphic B&W column dress. Hardy looking like an early iteration of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl, nostalgic in her glance yet effortlessly flawless in looks. This colour-block dress was actually designed by Marc Bohan of Dior and takes inspiration from the work of geometry-loving artist Sonia Delaunay. That same dress now makes a much-needed reappearance in Dior’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection, rubbing shoulders with a whole range of 1960s boho girl fantasies imagined by the mind of Maria-Grazia Chiuri.

See-through dresses in that perfectly unexpected lower-calf length worn with thigh-high socks and velvet mules, only chunky knits and oversized coats distorting the slim H-line silhouette that’s so reminiscent of Hardy and the gang. Printed pussy-bow blouses and signature accessories complete this new vision of femininity, emerging as just another chapter in Chiuri’s ongoing evolution. It’s beautiful, smart and totally wearable. It’s Dior.
