Dior: Menswear Spring 2022

When a house welcomes a new creative director, with it, usually comes a clean slate. Instagrams are wiped, teams are swapped and an entire brand identity completely transforms in a matter of weeks. When Kim Jones joined Dior as its artistic director in 2018, he defied this narrative. Instead of starting anew, Jones rethinks the codes of the house, and has trudged through the Christian Dior archive to inform each of his collections.

Mostly referencing the designs of the house’s founder, Jones now pivots his focus to Marc Bohan; Monsieur Dior’s second successor after Yves Saint Laurent.  Revisiting silhouettes designed by Bohan through the sixties, Jones hybridises tailoring and sportswear to envision a super relaxed wardrobe in time for spring. Subtle pink knits, leopard print cardies and chocolate brown trousers that pool over the ankle stand alongside nylon pullovers and pinstriped baseball shirts. Accessories, including the Dior Saddle and the new Lingot holdall, come encased in the Dior Oblique monogram, which was actually created under Bohan’s tenure. There’s also the B30; Jones’ latest trainer for the house – which proves both sporty and smart; the perfect kicks for stepping back into the world in.
