Raf simons is the right person to take over Dior. We already know that Raf Simons was the right choice for Dior, since his first collection for the brand back in 2012. As if the clothes were not proof enough though: Raf and Christian have more than a talent for design in common, they share a kind of romantic sensibility that gives Dior an edge on some other labels. There is an emotional connection between clothes and customer that is hard to explain. Captured by Willy Vanderperre in the latest campaign, that further expands on the brands association with nature. In Christian Dior’s autobiography he wrote “My childhood home sat on a cliff and lay exposed to the most turbulent of weather.” Raf Simons has translated this into a collection that could be Christian speaking from the grave, yet as Raf always does made it modern and his own. He designs for the house in a way that shows understanding and creativity in perfect balance. There is something nostalgic about these images, and I didn’t even grow up in the city, maybe it’s the way the models stare out across the horizon. It’s not enough to look nice, Dior goes one further, they tug on our heart strings.
