Diesel Venice Autumn Winter 2014 That Wasnt In

DIESEL: VENICE AUTUMN/WINTER 2014

That wasn’t in fact me on a speed boat in Venice with Susie Bubble en route to Nicola Formichetti’s runway debut for Diesel- but our Editorial Director Antony Miles,  who’s currently unavailable, recovering from the after party I suspect on a first class journey back to LHR. Still, I’m able to enjoy a vicarious taste of the whole experience via a few rather excitable phone calls- and oh yes, the masses and masses of attention this off schedule presentation has naturally gathered across all manner of social media. From Brooke Candy storming her way down the runway and then collapsing onto all fours to give the front row a better than they may well have expected view of her many talents, to the army of Pussy Riot looking balaclava wearing kids that made up the finale, and oh yes- Ms. Dello Russo looking BEYOND in a #DIESELTRIBUTE leather mini-dress throughout, it was obviously a show to remember. Issuing out from between enormous video projections which came care of Formichetti’s long term collaborator Nick Knight, the collection itself was built around 3 sections of punchy ‘Italiano-Americana’. Titled Leather-Rock ‘n Roll, Denim and Military-Utility, our favourite pieces were the classic bits of denim made incredibly fresh through a near kaleidoscopic array of new washing techniques. The take-away from this whole spectacle is of a brand who’s message has been simply re-enforced, and re-invigorated with a sort of harder, faster, Insta gen twist. A snarl of what Mr. Miles is always begging the basement dwelling yoof of Chez 10 to have a little more of. PERSONALITY! A brilliant emphasis on the individual, pulling against the sometimes homogenous on schedule approach to selling fashions.
