The roots of Diesel are in utilitarian, youth-tinged sportswear. That’s a massive emerging feeling for the autumn/winter 2016 collections across the board, so the label were well-placed to make an emphatic statement, and did just that. Andreas Melbostad riffed on bombers, on zippered leather, on surplus feelings, printed sweatshirts and distressed and wrapped layers. It did so adroitly, looking cool in a way that appeals to fashion types and also to kids on the street that just want to look great. The label’s fans oscillate between the two, so it’s safe to say Melbostad thoroughly nailed it.
