Lovely Scotsman Jonathan Saunders is fitting in very well indeed at DVF. He’s got this way of taking everything Diane’s built her business on – incredible colours, prints, dresses – and rejigging them, without losing anything that makes Diane, well, Diane. Which meant it remained very lady, and very fabulous – DVF’s longtime fans will still find plenty of such here – but Jonathan’s take feels more youthful, and modern.
It had that whole Seventies thing that Jonathan drew on last season – handkerchief hemline dresses and skirts (swiftly becoming a JSaunds’ signature at the American house), swishy tassels, candy-striper shirt dresses, sexy lace-up peep toe boots, ab-baring crop tops. The perfect attire for mincing off into the night and off to some fabulous discotheque to have a dance around your handbag. A handbag with tassels, no less. No wonder Ms Furstenberg was looking so satisfied as she watched on from the assembled crowd. This is one happy DVF family.
