Demna Gvasalia Leaves Vetements – These are 10 of His Best Looks for the Fashion House

“I feel I have accomplished my mission,” said Demna Gvasalia this morning, announcing his departure from Vetements. Starting the brand five years ago alongside his brother, chief-executive Guram Gvasalia, the Georgian designer has spearheaded a street-centric twist on luxury fashion unlike anything seen before. Since breaking onto the scene back in 2014, the now Zurich-based fashion house thrived through its radical approach to design, catapulting to a global sensation via an array of meme-worthy, fashion viral moments.

Soon the fashion pack began moving the couture gowns to the back of their wardrobes in order to make room for DHL tees, sock heels with stabilo highlighters in place of the heel and hoodies with sleeves so long they trailed across the floor like tentacles. Hopping between different fashion weeks each season and even selling a collection of “official fake” Vetements merch to South Korean fashion fanatics – Demna created Vetements to disrupt the fashion system inside out.

“I started Vetements because I was bored of fashion and against all odds fashion did change once and forever since Vetements appeared,” said the designer in the official statement. “Vetements has matured into a company that can evolve its creative heritage into a new chapter on its own.” Although it is unknown as of yet who will replace Gvasalia at the helm of the brand, the designer will continue his role as creative director at Balenciaga, who are set to debut their SS20 collection on September 29th in Paris. But in honour of Gvasalia’s fruitful tenure at Vetements, we revisit 10 of his best looks for the fashion house. This is the end of an era…
