The great meets the really really good. Yes, yes we bang on about Supreme a lot, but this New York-based brand which operates at a fascinating and ever-changing crosscurrent of street style and skatewear, is always up to something to get fashion types frothing. What Supreme commands in global hype is matched by the lust for its clever collabs. From Slayer merch tees to Stone Island coats to Nike hi-tops; this lot are unstoppable.
Next up, and launching on Thursday, is the – gasps – much-anticipated (we’re schwitzing) collab with Comme Des Garçons SHIRT. This fizzing collection of kit has had kids queuing since the early hours at the London outpost on Peter Street.
Why so hot? Well, it’s hard to get: rarity is a commodity and the more difficult a piece is to buy, the cooler it becomes. Out-dressing your peers is king. And, of course, the Comme-factor. What this arch Tokyo house does now is what other designers do next. The idea-factory and trend-engine has skewed Comme staples like glitchy-looking hoodies and tees, and the Japanese house’s signature biker jacket (and Comme designer Rei Kawakubo’s go-to outfit-topper) comes covered in graffiti. There are collab sneakers too and denim. You snooze. You lose.
Supreme x Comme des Garçons SHIRT is available in-store and online from September 13th.
