CHRISTOPHER SHANNON: WINNER OF BFC/GQ DESIGNER MENSWEAR FUND 2014
“I did just win that, right? That was mad!” Shannon told GQ, shortly after being announced as the winner of the inaugural BFC/GQ Designer Menswear Fund. “There were so many people pushing for that prize – and who pushed me to go for it – and I have always considered myself as somewhat anti-establishment, but now people have started recognising my work for what it is. That’s really rewarding.” So what does this prize entail (apart from the shiny trophy he’s clutching in the above picture)? Well to start with, a £150,000 grant to help take him to the next level of his business. And a year-long mentoring scheme worth an added £50,000. The Liverpool-born designer beat Lou Dalton, Richard Nicoll, Christopher Raeburn and E. Tautz to the award. “[His] label has a strong identity, clear business plan and has been creating a buzz at London Collections: Men since it’s inception,” said Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council, “A deserving winner.” Shannon’s LC:M show will be commencing this coming Sunday. We’ll be posting backstage pictures from the event so watch this space!
