NEWS JUST IN: Christopher Ræburn has been announced as the newly appointed global director of Timberland. The east London-based designer’s eponymous brand is known for it’s pioneering intelligent and responsible approach to clothes, including the reworking of surplus garments and fabrics in his designs, his “Remade” ethos. And over the years Timberland too have been committed to making their products responsibly, gradually building up their use of organic, renewable and recycled materials. With Ræburn working across all Timberland products as well as marketing and in-store environments, it sounds like it’s a match made in sustainability heaven!
The announcement coincides with the launch of the AW18 Timberland x Christopher Ræburn clothing collaboration, which first made an appearance at London Fashion Week earlier this year. For the collection Ræburn sourced vintage Timberland items through charity shops and street markets, then assiduously deconstructed and reimagined them into the catwalk collection. In turn, these pieces were used as inspiration for the Timberland x Christopher Ræburn capsule collection. To minimise impact on the environment, the outerwear, trousers, tops and shirts created utilise a range of eco-conscious materials including organic cotton and recycled PET, made from old plastic bottles.
“I’ve been watching the Timberland brand for many years and have always been drawn to its commitment to be a responsible business,” says Ræburn. “I see an incredible opportunity for Timberland to break out and put responsible, innovative design at the centre of the brand’s creative strategy. It’s an exciting moment to join forces with Timberland; a company set to evolve following decades of good work. I’m honoured to be partnering with a company with such strong values and I’m truly excited to be making a difference on a global scale,” he continues.
“Timberland has a strong foundation in craftsmanship and innovation; now it’s time to elevate our brand vision through the lens of design,” adds Jim Pisani, Timberland’s global brand president. “Christopher Ræburn is a true visionary, who shares our ethos of responsibility and brings to the table a fresh, modern design sensibility. Together we will really push the boundaries of where Timberland can go as a brand, and we’re excited to get started.” Ræburn will split his time between his own brand’s studio, Timberland’s global headquarters in Stratham, New Hampshire, and the regional headquarters in Hong Kony and Stabio, Switzerland. Truth be told, we’re most excited to see his take on their signature yellow boot.
