BREAKING: Christopher Kane Is Joining Mulberry

Christopher Kane is joining Mulberry as the brand’s creative director for womenswear!

The beloved Scottish designer will relaunch the British heritage brand’s ready-to-wear, with his debut collection set to be unveiled in September, dropping in stores in January.

“It is an honour to join Mulberry, a brand with such a rich British heritage and a deep commitment to craft,” says Kane. “I look forward to working closely with Andrea [Baldo, CEO of Mulberry] and the team to create a new chapter of ready-to-wear that celebrates the spirit of Mulberry.

Kane, the Scotsman who has long been heralded as one of the most gifted designers to operate out of the UK, closed his namesake label in 2023. Founded in 2006 after he graduated from Central Saint Martins, Kane quickly emerged as London Fashion Week’s hottest ticket.

His subversive takes on feminine dress, which often lean into fetish and kink, and have looked to outer space and human anatomy for inspiration, landed him in the eye of luxury conglomerate Kering, who acquired a 51 per cent stake of the business in 2013. Prior to this, he was hired by Donatella Versace to head up Versace’s Versus line in 2009, and also designed collections for high street giant Topshop.

Kane bought back his label in 2018 from Kering, and despite the success of the brand’s More Joy subsidiary line, was forced to close its Mount Street store in 2020 following the effect of the pandemic.

After shuttering his namesake label, in 2024 Kane collaborated with Self-Portrait as part of its new Residency Programme. Here, Kane reinterpreted his legendary SS07 CSM graduate collection – the one that saw him burst onto the scene and established him as a fashion trailblazer.

“Christopher brings a rare combination of creativity, intellectual rigour and instinctive playfulness, alongside a deep respect for craft and materials. His vision resonates strongly with Mulberry’s heritage and the spirit of British creativity that defines the house,” says CEO Andrea Baldo.

Massive congrats to Christopher!
