Question: how, exactly, is art best consumed? Well, last night, Christopher Kane made a strong case for with a glass (read: several) of champagne and a hefty smattering of beautiful fashion sorts. Yes, in celebration of Mr Kane’s feature on Austria’s Gugging Galerie in the October issue of Document Journal (photographed by Laurence Ellis, text by Christopher Kane, as told to Sarah Mower), he invited a selection of acquaintances to his Mount Street store to sample some of the Gallery’s work – 12 pieces in all, selected during his trip to the institution in July. The gallery specialises, as the notes tell us, in “Art Brut” – “unspoiled, rough art, created outside the cultural mainstream.” Oooh. Avid art collectors will also be pleased to know that these pieces of art are not mere decoration alone, no, you will actually be able to purchase them in store until the 11th October. Luckily, both Phoebe and I managed to stop just short of the amount of champagne that would involve us inappropriately purchasing said work with money we do not own, so for now, we shall instead enjoy the photograph above of Mr Kane posing with a work by Heinrich Reisenbauer. Lovely.
