We have to admit that most of our knowledge of Cuba is gleaned from Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights. Which may or may not be culturally accurate/sensitive. It’s all impromptu salsa contests, Diego Luna and illegally sourced cigars, isn’t it? Anyway, we are reminded of this landmark piece of filmmaking because news has emerged this morning that the island nation will be the next stop on Chanel airlines, the Parisian house showing their Resort 2017 collection there next May. The extravaganza (it always is, isn’t it?) will occur in the city of Havana itself and will be Chanel’s first time showing Latin America – a move coming fresh off the restoration of relations and trade between to US and Cuba. See, we do pay attention to hard news occasionally. But really it’s just an excuse to re-watch Dirty Dancing 2. Call it revision.
