If Chanel were the first fashion house to stage a show in Cuba are they also the first fashion house to shoot a campaign in Cuba? Who knows, but we’ll go with yes because why fact check when it’s the weekend and we really can’t be bothered. Anyway, Cuba, home to cigars, rolled on the juicy thigh of a Havana mother, home to Buena Vista Social Club, home to rum and Hemingway, the setting for Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights, is now home, or at least the backdrop to Chanel, Cruise 2017. The collection, to quote from our review was “a romp through the country’s heritage, all through the filter of Chanel – from the now-essential panama hat to floating skirts with colourful car prints, embroidered florals, glittering gowns and berets, alongside Chanel’s take on the slider. The collection was vibrant, modern and magical – totally transporting and considered, reflecting the colours of the Cuban city”. And what of the campaign? A series of of beautiful images, shot by Karl himself, that evoke the romance of Cuba in all it’s Hemingway literary glory. Viva la Chanel!
