Is there anything more fabulous than a Chanel Métiers d’art collection? Trick question. The annual extravaganza is a true standout on the yearly fashion calendar. Yet last year’s edition, held back in December, was particularly special as it was the first with Virginie Viard at the helm. Inspired Coco Chanel’s flat at 31 Rue Cambon, Viard enlisted the help of director Sofia Coppola to help emulate the historic location’s glamorous interior – packed with gold lion sculptures and gigantic mirrors. Luckily for us, Coppola’s contribution didn’t stop there. The critically acclaimed director teamed up with her brother Roman Coppola – another fantastic filmmaker (what a family, ay?) – on a film that follows Chanel muse Vittoria Ceretti in the hours leading up to the show.
Kicking off with a brekkie at The Ritz, Vittoria’s day begins at 8:22am. After some croissants and a chat with her mum, Ceretti then makes her way to Le Grand Palais, where her face is dotted with pearls and her eyes glossed in some shine. The film is soundtracked by a running commentary from Ceretti, who expresses her nerves and excitement leading up to the main event. “When you wear something from the Métiers d’art collection, you feel like you’re wearing a piece of art,” she says, as she makes her way down a glistening, spiral staircase. Prancing down the catwalk, she wears a pencil skirt adorned with flowers down the spine and a crystal-white cardigan that looks as if it was made from a summer cloud. The night ends with a party at Parisian hotspot La Coupole, with plenty of dancing and cake too! Fancy saving us a slice?
