First it was Gucci who took us on a cruise, and now it’s time to board Chanel’s train line for a round-trip to fashion paradise. Luxury brands seem to be desperate to make sure we look chic while travelling – has someone told Virginie Viard of the time I wore a pair of torn trackies on the Eurostar? Because I feel slightly targeted with the latest, Cruise 2020 campaign which came out today, coinciding with the collection dropping into Chanel’s boutiques worldwide. Starring a line-up of inspiring women, the photographs tell a story of a mysterious back-and-forth through the Gare de Lyon, proving how graceful one can look while jumping on a train. Caroline de Maigret, Soo Joo Park, Tami Williams, Ola Rudnicka and Amanda Sanchez all perfectly embody the Chanel woman in the silhouette of la Parisienne, the true style icon that has been clarified through Viard’s collections since taking over as the creative head of the French Maison from the legend Of Lagerfeld.
So, what does that Chanel woman wear on her travels? At the base of her look, there’s statement outerwear – she chooses a fine take on a classic camel trench coat, with a hood and in a slightly darker in the shade of a burnt caramel. In case she’s feeling colourful though, there are perfect shades of fuchsia and indigo tweed, popping up throughout the collection. She pays attention to her wardrobe being ready for any situation or dress code that might come along the way, as part of her perfectly timeless way of dressing. And of course, there’s bags. A lot of them. Once again mixing tradition and newness for an ageless final look, the brand new Chanel 19 bag in quilted jersey is slung on her arm, as an update on the classic 2.55 she’s already got in her wardrobe. But she’s going for a long weekend to paradise – that’s why she’s also got a contrasting Chanel 31 tote on the other arm. Both in tweeds and leather, the brand’s bag selection signs the beginning of a new era of Chanel. That’s where these women are heading – into a better tomorrow. Can we join on the trip? Promise, will bring snacks!
Chanel’s Cruise 2020 collection is now available to shop online and in the brand’s boutiques worldwide.
