Chalayan: Ready-to-Wear SS18

More avant garde adventures with Mr Chalayan. Bit of a lie actually, the first half of the show was actually quite “normal” for the cerebral designer – normal in the sense it was real clothes, a study in brilliantly cut tailoring – dropped shouldered-suiting with tucks in each side to warp the shape, sleeveless blazers that opened up into a caped back. Colour too, a bit more cheerful than Hussein’s usual – zingy yellows and lipstick reds. Coloured crystal post-it notes hung from dresses, a comment on the digital age and our desire to endlessly self-promote and curate ourselves, apparently. Ended, in more typical Hussein style, with structural headpieces dotted with the model’s faces poking through, some dotted with flowers. Yeah, no-one’s going to wear it, but that’s not the point, is it?
