Chalayan: Ready-to-wear AW17

We begin day 2 in a theatre. Sadler’s Wells. Which provided, according to Phoebe, “a lovely warm ambience and a sense of drama.” We were there for Chalayan’s AW17 show, who returns to London once again, after bringing his menswear back this season from Paris. And, I mean, we could talk about the lovely collection that paraded upon the stage before us, a sort of modern musing on, as the notes said, Greek folk culture – draped dresses that sat over tunics, tops and trousers that fastened and gathered with strings in a muted palette of grey and navy. But really, you know us, if there’s a top that expels feathers / streamers then that’s what we will be mostly wittering on about. Because that’s what those last exits were – tops overlaid with cardboard, that, when the models grabbed and pulled erupted in streamers and feathers. A party popper in a top. A suitably dramatic entrance. Or, as Dominic alternatively put it: “the henhouse after the fox got in”. Apparently, though, because Hussein is much cleverer than us, this was actually -“a fake celebration of various world events.” Because how better to face impending doom that with streamers? Party.
