Mi casa, tu casa. Or, in this case, Loewe’s casa, which opened in Madrid yesterday. The Loewe Casa is not, in fact, a house, but a store, which, after years in the making is the first in Loewe’s birth country of Spain to get the full Jonathan Anderson do-over. And, as the pictures demonstrate, this one was worth the wait. Not surprising, really, as Mr Anderson clearly has impeccable taste. So what can our Spanish cousins expect from the 1000 foot megastore? Well, an adornment of artworks selected by Jonathan – Edmund de Waal, Richard Smith and Gloria Garcia Lorca – can be found hanging upon the walls, alongside a humungous aquatint print by Sir Howard Hodgkin on the theme of past, present and future. Nestled amongst this is, of course, a selection of delicious Loewe product, spanning mens, womens, accessories, as well as exotic skins and a made-to-measure service. There’s even a florist, inspired by educator, florist and author Constance Spry. Because, come to think of it, if one has a fuckload of cash could a Loewe bag not double as a vase? And, to a more pressing question – how best to celebrate such an event? Well, usually just a glass of booze and a herd of the great and the good would satiate us here at Ten Towers, but Loewe instead also threw in an exhibition of the brand past, present and future at Madrid’s Real Jadin Botanico, which features works from Steven Meisel, images from Luis Venegas’ Loewe book and will be open to the public until December 9th. A tapas platter of Loewe goodies, basically. Go feast.
