And it’s back! Milan Fashion Week just opened with a fabulous new chapter – the relaunch of Byblos. And the classic Italian brand is classic no more. Presenting their Technotronic look of the future as the vision for SS19, the team at Byblos transported us into a galaxy far, far away. Even as we walked into the venue, it was clear we were getting ready to take off to somewhere beyond the Planet Earth. Metres of reflective silver material billowing in the air, making us feel like we’re heading into a capsule heading to the Moon. Technical materials in high-pitch neons embellished in heavy hardware – it was like Blade Runner 3.0.
This fresh start was a massive departure from what we knew of the brand, yet there were still some elements of archive Byblos in there. The ombré-effect dresses seemed taken from the past and projected into the future, with feather-like paillettes creating a sense of futuristic movement. And then there were the accessories… A chunky trainer with ribbed soles, thigh-high boots in hi-reflective nylon and a whole collection of oversized visor-style sunglasses – all made for brightening up the cloudy days ahead. And so, shinier than ever before, Byblos was back with us. Now off the to the future we go…
