We’re in Milano and the designers still seem fresh from their Ferragosto beach getaway. It’s no surprise – Italians tend to take all of August off, spending multiple weeks in a state of carelessness. Now what happens when you transcribe that same feeling into the city bustle? A fun, upbeat collection peppered with the spirit of youth. And a lot of tulle worn with swimsuits, of course. The Brognano SS20 show was a prime example of the colliding worlds of concrete roads and sandy sunsets. The wardrobe effortlessly transforms from day to night, business to pleasure. There’s no particular occasion these clothes are designed for, but all of them look equally office and party-ready.
The intense blues and purples dominate the colour wheel – and Nicola Brognano knows exactly how to use them. Diluted in prints on silky shirts or saturated in vinyl trench coats. Sharp, oversized tailoring gets its moment to shine too – once again joined by barely-there tops. Or no tops at all. The Brognano woman isn’t afraid of a little nip-slip. In fact, she embraces it fully in her final look. A canary yellow calf-length cake-y concoction of a tulle dress. God, how we wanna hang out with her.
