It’s the end of an era. Truly. In news that broke just moments ago, Christopher Bailey is to step down from his roles at Burberry in March next year. Christopher has been Chief Creative Officer of the house since 2001, becoming chief executive in 2014, and is widely considered to have transformed the British house into the international fashion player that it is today.
“It has been the great privilege of my working life to be at Burberry, working alongside and learning from such an extraordinary group of people over the last 17 years. Burberry encapsulates so much of what is great about Britain,” said Bailey in an announcement this morning. ”It has been a truly inspiring place to work and the decision to leave was not an easy one. I do truly believe, however, that Burberry’s best days are still ahead of her and that the company will go from strength to strength with the strategy we have developed and the exceptional talent we have in place led by Marco.”
No news yet as to who will take the reigns when he leaves next year- but we wish Christopher the absolute best of luck with whatever comes next. Thank you for the years. *sob*
