A faux fur-lined hoody is probably not the first thing you may think of when you think of Bottega Veneta. But that is what greeted us, first look, at their Spring show yesterday. In camo no less. The inspiration? “The big country” – the great wild – walking in the hills, sailing. It was casual, outdoorsy fayre – clashing animal prints, sporty cropped trousers, a lightweight knitted gilet – a move that felt fitting in the midst of this Indian Summer in Milan. Perfect for those long weekends at your country abode. But Bottega’s girl must face the rigours of the city at some point – hence the perfectly tailored jackets, fine knits and slinky fitted dresses, that came the same camo and animal prints. There was even a kind of wrapped around parachute that made for a perfect ballgown. Which is good to know if you ever need to go from jumping out of a plane to high society gathering. For what girl should have to choose? City in the week, country on the weekends. That’s the Bottega girls way.
