If Pinocchio was around today, he’d probably be joining Troye Sivan, Bella Hadid and Indya Moore as one of the ambassadors of the latest Calvin Klein campaign. I speak truth in #MyCalvins is all about showcasing honesty through personal narratives and opening up about things that you usually wouldn’t. Making the world a better place one personal story after another, the ongoing project features global artists doing the deed and thereby encouraging their audience to do the same. One of the 11 artists taking part in the campaign which is launching today is American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish. From self-releasing music via SoundCloud in 2016 to global pop-star fame, the ocean-eyed songstress has already been quite opened about the media perception of her look. Now, she goes even deeper. “I never want the world know everything about me,” Eilish says, vocalising what many fans probably don’t want to hear but so many of us can actually relate to.
At the sole age of 17, Eilish simultaneously epitomises and subverts the idea of a contemporary teenage pop-star. Going against the grain of those that came before her like Britney and Xtine, Eilish is in control of her own image through dressing a particular way. “I mean, that’s why I wear big baggy clothes,” she goes on in the video, as she hangs around in a bathtub while fully dressed in matching green trackies. Next time someone asks you a question and you want to blurt out a little white lie, remind yourself of Billie Eilish and think again. Honesty truly is the best policy, especially when you’re wearing #YourCalvins.
