Ten’s To See: Bill Georgoussis’ ‘Push Plus One’ At K-Gold Temporary Gallery

We’re taking a quick trip for this edition of Ten’s To See, as we head over to the K-Gold Temporary Gallery on the Greek island of Lesvos for an exhibition by a friend of 10, fashion photographer Bill Georgoussis. Entitled Push Plus One, the display, which opens on January 17 and runs until March 15, is a retrospective of Georgoussis’ 30-year-long career. Cracking open his vast archive, visitors will have the chance to see imagery that has never been made available to the public, as well as editorials from past issues of 10 and 10 Men.

10 Men

Georgoussis’ work has taken many forms, speaking to his enduring presence across the landscape of fashion and art, despite the changing nature of photography across the decades he’s been active. From the heyday of print publishing to the online age we live in today, Georgoussis (and his camera) have been there for it all, shifting from analogue to film to digital production as time chugged on. From experimental, collaged work with a surrealist edge, to his pared back portraiture that incorporates elements of documentary photography, Georgoussis is a true creative shapeshifter. His ability to stay fluid and create work that always feel fresh has made him a favourite of publishers of all styles. Alongside his work for 10, images Georgoussis has created for Dazed, Document Journal and Self Service are also on show.

The exhibition takes a philosophical stance, rooting itself in a question Georgoussis has asked himself as content overproduction has increasingly gripped the world of image making – what is the role of a photographer in this context? The answer? To take more contemplative imagery rooted in observation and simplicity. A series of beautiful images that demand the viewer stop and take their time, this display is the perfect antidote for anyone wanting to step away from their phones and take things in with intention.
