New York, London, Paris, Milan… Barnsley?
It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it? But according to Kim Kardashian’s derriere, the sleepy South Yorkshire town could be fashion’s next capital.
Arriving to the Balenciaga studio ahead of her couture catwalk debut last week, Kimmy K wore a pair of the brand’s pantaleggings and a skin-tight leotard which bared the babyfaced Speed Hunters, Balenciaga’s fictional answer to NSYNC, created by Demna in 2018.
Slapped on the arse were a series of the band’s made-up tour dates, with Barnsley sitting just above Kardashian’s bum.
We quite like the idea of the star Googling Barnsley as she slipped into her Balenciaga fashions. We wonder what she thinks of Barnsley FC’s signing of defender Nicky Cadden, or if she had a nose at the town’s coal mining history. Was she fuming when Barnsley bombshell Cheyanne got pied off by Jacques on Love Island? Reckon she’s even seen Kes, starring one of Barnsley’s biggest exports no less, the kestrel-loving David Bradley?
One could only dream of Kim, sat wearing her Balenciaga garb inside her lavish Parisian hotel, putting on her best Yorkshire accent. “’Ey Up, Pete, what we ‘avin for tea?”, “Don’t get mardy, North”.
Turns out the Barnsley-Balenciaga connection is down to each of the brand’s “tour dates” borrowing their locations from the different birthplaces of the brand’s atelier. But don’t lose faith in Barnsley’s luxe fashion future. Martine Rose also sent caps stamped with the town’s name down the catwalk at her London comeback show last month. Coincidence? Maybe so. But if Barnsley’s trajectory is anything to go by, when can we see Wigan, Bolton or even Huddersfield on the runway?
