Could we say that there was something of the hunter-gatherer to the Balmain woman this season? Which might seem a bit of a stretch as we all know that the Balmain lady has a gentleman, possibly several, in order to answer her every whim. Which might, in this case, include hunting down and skinning various animals and forming them into a selection of glorious, high octane this-is-what-fashion-looks-like garments. But, then again, let us not underestimate her. For the Balmain woman is a power lady. She doesn’t need a man, she just enjoys them. Here, she had a touch of the warrior woman – it’s something about those animal skins – layers of studded raw-cut leather, spotted cowhide, furs, all the way zebra and tiger (print, that is – these ladies aren’t savages). They were all sort of sliced together into sexy form-fitting mini dresses, worn with thigh-high boots or used to cinch the waist of gowns that fell away into tassels beneath. Dare we reference Raquel Welch in 1000 BC? Because, fear not, all this hard work hasn’t made our Balmain lady any less the glamazon. No no. I mean, there was a mesh moment – these almost fishing net-style dresses, embellished with thousands of beads and the shapes of wild animals, or sheer cut-outs on sharp black gowns and tailoring that revealed a hint of boob. Full-on fashion fantasy. Would you expect anything less from the lovely Olivier Rousteing? It culminated in, as all good things now should, Kendall Jenner in a full on alligator get up. Had she been to the swamp and wrestled him herself? Probably. The Balmain lady always comes out on top.
