Cara Delevingne and Olivier Rousteing Collaborate on a Mini Collection of Balmain Bags

“Funny, smart, humble and incredibly beautiful – I cannot describe her in three words,” Olivier Rousteing tells us of his bestie Cara Delevingne. Everything you’d want to hear from your good Judy, right? But working with a friend can go both ways. On one hand, you can have loads of fun and the final result can be something you are both proud of. On the other, you can get in a fight and never speak again. Luckily for all of us, the latest Balmain collaboration was the case of the former. Fashion besties Olivier and Cara worked together on designing three bags which are now part of the special collaborative capsule collection. The MVP and the chief officer of the Balmain Army obviously make a harmonious team. The first bag is launching today – the BBag is an updated version of the classic quilted square-shaped flap bag with a golden chain and the brand’s logo front and central. The other two bags are available from mid-July – the Twist is a circular padded version with statement hardware, while the Romeo plays the role of a wild card, its bucket-like shape with a big metal handle and golden spikes bringing a subtle dose of punk. Allowing three of Cara’s wild personalities to shine – Olivier enables his bestie in becoming whoever she wants to be. And that’s exactly what a good friend does.

Taking the idea of a bag-inspiring muse to the next level, Balmain’s creative director went above and beyond just inspiration. Throughout this design process with Cara, he experienced everything we want with a mate of ours. “It was just an incredible adventure – we’re two friends sitting together around the desk, sketching, sharing ideas… It’s about loving each other and wanting to do the best out of our friendship and out of respect for our common talents. The design process with Cara is about Whatsapp, Facetime, about sitting in my office and talking about it in my house… It’s just about us trying to do our best,” he tells us over the phone from Paris.

With all three bags in their hands, where are Cara and Olivier heading? “What’s good with Cara is that we can’t expect where we go, but we’re definitely gonna discover the world together. Those three bags are not for one destination, they are for all the world we have to discover together.” And off we go…
