Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome. Im Cabaret, au Cabaret, to Cabaret. That is the opening song of ‘Cabaret’ for those of you amongst us who are not musically theatre inclined. I know this because I was to appear in a version of the production at my high school, until I dropped out after a day. So that was all I ever learnt. You’ll have to forgive me if this is completely inaccurate, but I can’t help but feel like the new Balenciaga campaign, shot by the forever amazing Harley Weir, is Cabaret inspired. Fetish, kink, sex. Words that were bandied around at the SS17 show, and more than apt to describe Cabaret. I like to imagine Alek Wek, who also appeared in the show, as a modern day Sally Bowles. Ditching the bowler hat and stockings, for those stretchy Spandex what we think are pants? Shoes? Pant shoes? No pants are the new pants. So come to the Cabaret old chum, pull up a chair and enjoy the show.
