Flowers are an attractive centrepiece. But you know what would look even better? Balenciaga’s porcelain figurines perched upon your mantelpiece. Part of the Balenciaga Object line, these handcrafted models are small scale replicas of looks from the brand’s 50th couture collection, modelled by Aki Nummela and Minttu Vesala.
If only Polly Pocket could be swallowed up by Demna’s epic universe, then she might begin to rival the chicness of these limited-edition miniatures. Better keep out of reach from children though, as these delicately crafted figurines aren’t for playing. Made entirely by hand at the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory in Munich (est. 1747), it remains one of the last producers of its kind across the world. Just as the couture that is being replicated, the figurines represent an artisan’s labour of love.
Following the brand’s AW22 couture collection, the internet practically imploded when the likes of Kim Kardashian and Nicole Kidman took to the catwalk. Away from the star-studded line-up though, the collection’s high-tech creations are also worthy of the spotlight.
Highlights included a Balenciaga Couture Face Shield made in collaboration with Mercedes-AMG F1 Applied Science, and a sleek portable Speaker Bag from Danish audio giant Bang & Olufsen. And just in case you wanted to take home a slice of the atmosphere, the scent of Balenciaga’s Couture salon has been extracted and made into refillable candle for your convenience.
Balenciaga’s Couture Figurines and the rest of the Balenciaga Objects collection are now available at the brand’s newly unveiled Couture store at 10 Avenue George V in Paris.
