A new era begins this morning at Balenciaga after the announcement of their new Artistic Director – Demna Gvasalia of cult French fashion brand, Vetements. His first collection for the house will be shown during womens fashion week next March. “We really wanted somebody that has a vision, and someone capable of reshuffling the cards,” said CEO Isabella Guchot. “I was really amazed by his ability to develop an approach to the brand that was really new and that was really his own…what should be the attitude, what should be the silhouette, what should be the volumes.” With Vetements, Gvasalia has sent a jolt of energy into Paris and is bound to do the same at Balenciaga. “I am extremely honored and excited to be given the opportunity to bring my creative vision to Balenciaga, a house with such an exceptional history of pushing the boundaries of modernity in fashion,” he said this morning.
