Let’s call this an emerald capsule collection, being, as it is, the traditional gemstone for a 35th anniversary – that 35th anniversary being that of Monsieur Alaïa. AKA God. The collection, which consists of eight dresses, is an ode to the three and a half decades of joyful union shared between the designer and the store, with several of the dresses inspired by previous looks sold during those happy years. And considering that Alaïa deals only in timeless chic, a capsule collection that draws from his bottomless archive of designs for the store seems a no-brainer, as Daniella Vitale, Barney’s chief exec said herself, “We collected them [archive images] and presented to the Alaïa team…so many of the pieces were timeless; therefore, it wasn’t difficult to draw inspiration from them.” When you’re a genius, squeezing out a little extra genius is no bother.
