Jaw-trembling BPMs and thundering basslines have come to define VTSS’ sound. The Polish DJ and producer is known for her experimental weavings of club-ready tracks from colliding directions. A true thrill-seeker, she sharpened her craft on the dancefloors of Berlin, before moving to East London last September for a new chapter in her career.
Cutting her teeth as a hard-hitting techno DJ, these days VTSS – real name Martyna Maja – is returning to the eclectic genre combinations of her earliest sets. This fresh direction can be seen in her own productions, too. Her latest EP Projections, released on Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour, is peppered with mind-boggling twists and turns, never sure to stick with singular sound for too long. “With clubs being closed and there being no perspective on when it was going to change,” says VTSS, “I felt free for the first time to do what I wanna do. And being in London, being surrounded by friends who are outside of the ‘techno bubble’ — everyone here is more genre-fluid. That was really inspiring.”
As she gears up for her For Your Entertainment tour across the UK, kicking off this Friday in Glasgow, we grab VTSS for a quick natter.
