Aniye Records: Ready-to-Wear AW22

Once upon a time in Studio 54… This was the tale Aniye Records (Aniye By’s new sister label) told for its debut collection at Milan Fashion Week. Chock full of glitz, glam and all things glitter, it was an edit set for the stage. In the show notes, creative director Alessandra Marchi said: “I have always dreamt of waking up in the wonderful 1970s. Designing stage costumes for the most eclectic and chameleon-like of rock music icons: David Bowie.” And she did just that.

Out of the black, a studded leather playsuit emerged, cast in a stark spotlight and paired with distressed tights and Gaga-esque platform boots. Following closely a promenade models with alabaster skin and black painted lips stomped down the catwalk, all clad in moto-jackets, ostrich feathers, saucy lace-up leather, ’70s flared trousers, revealing underbust corsets and full sequin sets – it was all very Sid and Nancy-meets-old Hollywood.

Meanwhile, loose lace and chiffon layering brought the temperance of a groupie and flouncy faux fur coats added something a little more authoritative. Going back to black, low-waists were wrapped in vinyl and elsewhere, silver, soft gold and leopard print were evocative of the liquid shades of rock n’ roll, giving rise to a new genre: the “RAW-ROMANTIK”.

The star of the show was a mesh catsuit with stars over the breasts and thigh-high panels that came accompanied by a lavishly layered tulle cape. But what you truly couldn’t miss were the Victorian plastrons and contrasting rhinestone notched collars fit for the Queen Bitch, Bowie himself.
