The first Vivienne Westwood show after Dame Vivienne’s death was always going to be emotional. Andreas Kronthaler, her partner in life and design, who carries her flame so passionately, paid a beautiful tribute to the incomparable designer. It was a family affair, with friends and old Westwood favourites amongst the models. They paraded in looks that celebrated the essence of Westwood. The clothes were sexy, voluptuous and life-affirming. The first look was a T-shirt featuring her image, worn with a collage of Westwood-isms – a mini kilt over a baroque-print dress and platforms. There followed punk-inflected looks, wild tartans, blanket coats and towering platforms. Boys and girls both wore corset dresses and tweed suits (with knickers replacing trousers). There were slouchy Westwood track pants and billowing ballgowns – there’s a Westwood way to do every moment in life.
The bride was the designer’s granddaughter, Cora Corre, who spoke so eloquently at her London memorial. She was followed by Kronthaler, who fought back tears as he took his bow. Bravo Andreas, the Westwood spirit lives on.
