Who knew nude hues could be so explosive? Andreādamo did. At his SS23 show in Milan last night, the Italian designer’s first looks were rendered in pure sandy shades, while the latter half of the edit served as a lesson in making a colour-coded statement with electric oranges, tobacco browns, jet blacks and icy whites coming into play.
Coated in sequins, models emerged from a modern building behind the Prada Foundation, their platform sandals skimming the surface of a shallow aquatic pool. Splashing with each step, their maxi-platform flip-flops featured extremely solid yet very vertiginous heels.
Water actually played a key part in the genesis of the collection which was primarily driven by tides of movement – so did a tiny surf village in Lanzarote, The Canary Islands, called Famara. Every morning when the breaks come in, surfers both local and foreign congregate there to ride the waves.
Adamo’s incentive this season was to think big, too. Driven by his popularity amongst super-celebs like Dua Lipa, Iris Law and Julia Fox, what resulted were high-strung, sexy swimwear pieces worn under ballooning utility skirts, bedazzled maple-leaf nipple covers with spaghetti straps and mesh-made cut-out catsuits – all of which we guarantee will be quickly copped by the It-girls of our day. But it wasn’t all skin-tight sex appeal, boxy tailoring erected in ecru twill appeared too.
When concocting the collection, Adamo’s signature ribbed knits were reborn with thin nylon threads throughout that provided for a more solid structure than ever before. Synthesised as asymmetric second-skin cropped tops paired with cargo pants and capris in distressed leather and treated cotton that swayed with shredded strapping.
