“What would the soundtrack to my life look like?” asked Priya Ahluwalia, as she toured through the music that shaped her youth to inspire her latest collection. From Bollywood to hip-hop, UK garage to dancehall floor-fillers, the designer mined music videos, dancefloor dress codes, red carpets of yesteryear, and even her own record collection to inform her hedonistic approach to silhouette and colour.
Ruched mini-dresses, with exaggerated, ruffled collars, walked alongside mohair knits fashioned with music wave jacquards and the laser-etched denim that has become a key element of the brand’s handwriting. This was Ahluwalia’s most confident outing yet, as she expanded her womenswear to include everything from energetic knitted twin sets, zebra print knee-high boots and a pea-green puffer that could’ve easily dressed Foxy Brown to the VMAs in its hay day. The menswear was equally as strong, featuring A-plated belt buckles, two-tone corduroy overcoats, and her signature waved tailoring.
Ahluwalia may have been nostalgic for the sounds that followed her through her formative years. Yet there wasn’t anything dated about this season’s wardrobe. These are highly shoppable pieces with serious appeal.
