ADIDAS: BRAND TO COLLABORATE WITH PHARRELL WILLIAMS
Today bore news that adidas is teaming up with Pharrell Williams. I think Pharrell is something like a modern-day Dorian Gray. Okay, so he’s not a chronic narcissist but he always manages to look good and does seem to be exempt from the process of ageing. Enviable qualities, no? Perhaps these are some of the reason the musician is snapping up fashion collaborations left, right and centre. With partnerships with G-Star, Comme des Garcons, Moncler and Uniqlo already resting under his designer belt, now it’s adidas’ turn. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it; remember when Pharrell’s Vivienne Westwood hat made it’s debut at the 2014 Grammys? Well I’m not sure if the outfit would have caused quite the sensation it did, had it not been for the adidas classic Firebird jacket worn with it. Pharrell admits, “From the classic tracksuit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, adidas has been a staple in my life.” Interestingly, this will be the first time the German brand has collaborated with a designer who owns their own textile company. You see, Saint Pharrell owns a company called Bionic Yarn that turns plastic debris from the oceans into fabric (he really is a phenomenal human being, is he not?). We look forward to buying a piece of Pharrell x adidas and saving the dolphins as we do.
