Against a yale blue backdrop, a flood of Edward Enninful’s closest pals stand centrefold and poised. All in black suits – some with alabaster shirting others opting for the full obsidian look but nonetheless the British Vogue editor-in-chief’s recognisable uniform – with glasses resting over the bridges of their noses and Enninful’s new autobiographical book in hand, they read poignant excerpts from the text tackling Black brutality, sexuality, career milestones and silly experiences. From Kate Moss, Gemma Chan, Jodie Turner Smith, Sienna Miller and Kristen McMenamy, to Damson Idris, Daniel Kaluuya, Jourdan Dunn, and Tilda Swinton among others, the moving picture is packed with A-listers, all in attendance to voice their love and support of fashion’s leading man.
From Kloss Films, under the leadership of long-time collaborator (and Enninful’s beloved husband) Alec Maxwell, this brand new cinematic erection celebrates Edward Enninful OBE’s newly released memoir, A Visible Man. Maxwell writes in a press release: “This film tells my husband, Edward Enninful’s story. I wanted to suggest his bravery and humour and to present it as a trailer for his book, A Visible Man, narrated by some of the people closest to him.”
Out yesterday, the hardcover memoire recalls Enninful’s foundational moments from his upbringing in Ghana to his first meeting with Kate Moss, and navigates notions of inclusivity and representation through not just his Blackness but his queer positioning as well. He writes: “I hope the film and my memoir inspire all to open doors and walk through.”
