A RANT ON THE SHOWS
What’s has happened to the shows? Seriously? What? Since when have they become about anything but the clothes. Yes we know that to be current we must all tweet, instagram, blog, whatever, sell our souls to Google for all eternity but really when did the number of retweets and likes become more important than lets say the press seeing the clothes and reviewing them? And being allowed to give an honest review and not risk being banned to the seventh circle of hell for it? Or the buyers seeing the clothes and putting in an order? It’s like being at The Clothes Show Live, wandering around the NEC in Birmingham with a BBC camera trailing you. Except that we’re in London. For fashion week. And in it’s defence, you at least got to see some clothes on The Clothes Show. Yes it’s important to promote and garner support for the many talented designers. But on the other hand whats the point of them spending all their money on a show if no one can actually see it due to the sea of iPads obscuring the view. Who care how many instagram or whatever followers some second rate blogger has. The point of a show is to show clothes to the press and buyers. It’s kind of central to their jobs. So why don’t we all tone it down a little, focus on support, so that London doesn’t implode in some social media meltdown and people choose to ignore it once again. Preferring to look at on Style.com the next day from the comfort of their office.
