Hermès: Ready-To-Wear SS27

Nadège Vanhée brought a lightness to Hermès that you wouldn’t think was possible at a leather house. A silk fan print from the 1990s inspired her to think about airy pieces with all the heaviness taken away. Her leather pieces are always exceptional, but the designer charged the incredible Hermès artisans with making it fluid and airy for SS27. They crafted tank dresses, tops and pencil skirts from slender strips of leather, applied to mesh, to create supple movement and flow. A suede blazer was backed in silk and a coat came with intricate perforations. These pieces were joined by ultra lightweight denim, sporty fine-knit shorts and silk scarf wrapped bra-tops.

The designer, mindful of creating clothes that are versatile, sent out silk parkas that could be adapted into gilets and ultra lightweight chiffon skirts, circled with a zip, so you could wear them long or short.  She described it as “a very pragmatic silhouette”. The accessories also had a sense of pragmatism. Alongside stacked leather bracelets and knee high moccasin boots, there were bucket bags and duffel style back packs. In major news for Hermès watchers, the brand introduced a new type of leather for top handle bags. Called Willow Calf, it is not as sensitive as their box leather and only comes in one colour way – dark chocolate brown. Light and practical, this was heatwave dressing, Hermès-style.
