Wooyoungmi: Menswear SS27

I think we could do with a bit more joy right now? This season, Madame Woo wanted to bring a sense of escapism to her wardrobe. For her latest Wooyoungmi outing, her design hand was guided by Heung, a “Korean concept of joy, spontaneity and rhythm”. She wanted to create garments that expressed lightness and optimism, or “elation through clothes”, as noted in the press release.

It started with the colour palette – mint madras checks, cornflower blue suit jackets, boyish shorts in powdery pinks and lime hued tracksuit bottoms. There was a lived-in feel to many of the looks – like scuffed leather trousers and a crumple-dying technique that was applied to sheer coats and shirts that looked as if they’d been baked in the sun. Another strong point was a denim twinset dotted with patches of wildlife creatures and a shirt depicting a pair of stalks, inspired by ancient Korean art motifs. In Woo’s hands, desirable men’s staples are threaded with serenity.
