BREAKING: Nicolas Di Felice Exits Courrèges

After five years at the helm of Courrèges, Nicolas Di Felice has announced he is exiting the label. In a statement posted to his personal Instagram, the designer wrote: “I still remember with so much affection my very first day in this beautiful house, where everything had to be rebuilt. “I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, all the people who contributed-with their talent and their work, in one way or another-to the rebirth of Courrèges.”

Under Di Felice’s creative direction, Courrèges has been revitalised for a new generation of fashion fans. Joining the house in 2020, he reconfigured the youthful vision of the house’s founder, André Courrèges, who was radical for carving out a space-age futuristic look during the 1960s.

“It was never my dream to become an artistic director of a house and break everything and impose my style, it’s not really who I am,” the designer told 10 in 2021.  Di Felice’s collections looked to the modernist, geometric constructions that defined the early years of Courrèges. The designer – who trained under Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga – reintroduced the brand’s miniskirts and leather trucker jackets as new It items. He also brought a club-wear sensibility to his evolving Courrèges wardrobe; Di Felice is big on going out-out and over the past five years has thrown Paris Fashion Week’s most legendary parties, the last one taking place during menswear in June inside a car scrap yard on the outskirts of the city.

His vinyl minis and abbreviated A-line frocks made ideal party garb, showing just the right amount of skin for a night spent on the tiles. The designer also proved himself to be a master showman with memorable catwalks which have included a sand whirlpool set, a confetti shower for a finale and one show were each model stomped with their heads buried into their phones.

Di Felice announced he is leaving the label to dedicate himself to other projects. It’s yet to be announced who will replace him at Courrèges.
