Chanel Celebrates The J12, Its First Unisex Sports Watch

Chanel’s latest watchmaking endeavour isn’t just a timepiece but a sleek, bold, unisex accessory, inspired by racing yachts and endless blue skylines. Meet the J12   the first luxury watch to be crafted entirely from ceramic, to stand the test of time and ever-changing condition. Come what may, the J12 is ready to take on everything from nautical depths, golden sunsets and more.

Jacques Helleu, the former artistic director of watches at Chanel, had a clear vision for the brand’s entry into the era of sporty timepieces – a vision faithfully carried forward by Arnaud Chastaingt, current director of the Watch Creation Studio. The result is an undeniably sleek design that conceals a tough-as-nails spirit beneath its polished surface.

The choice of ceramic was not merely aesthetic – the material is heat-resistant and anti-corrosive, with the J12 forged through hours of production at temperatures exceeding 1,300 degrees. A fusion of mechanical science and creative artistry, the J12 underwent rigorous testing against natural abrasives, UV exposure, water, and impact. Sun, wind, sea and sand tested – rest assured, the J12 holds its own.

Seemingly fluid as silk, yet seven times more resistant than steel, the watch is both durable and remarkably resilient. Substantially strong yet irresistibly smooth, the J12 moulds to the wrist while quietly tugging at the soul.

Featuring a self-winding Calibre 12.1 manufacture movement, a circular rotor, no fewer than 191 components, and a 70-hour power reserve – surpassing the traditional standard – the J12 stands as a testament to precision engineering and enduring performance.

The accompanying campaign, entitled In The Greatest Strength Lies Softness, mirrors the J12’s most notable characteristic – its simultaneous power and grace. Fronted by supermodels Gisele Bündchen and Clément Chabernaud, the two serve as the deliciously carefree faces of Chanel’s latest release. “After years in the fast-paced fashion world, I slowed down and began living with intention”, Bündchen reflects, describing the J12 as a symbol of the balance she strives for in her personal life, “honouring beauty and simplicity while embracing growth and change”. Campaign stills featuring her and Chabernaud exude soft, luxurious tones; the watch rests against sun-kissed skin and sea-soaked, sun-bleached hair.

On the horizon lies a renewed expression of strength – and Chanel’s J12 is setting the pace.
