He’s been away from the London catwalk for three years but Julien Macdonald made sure to come back with a bang. The glamour-obsessed Welshman whisked his audience up to London’s highest point, the viewing deck of The Shard, and laid on a crystal and sequin resort-wear extravaganza – part of his relaunch strategy is to focus only on hot weather dressing. His models slinked and sashayed in looks inspired by champagne sunsets and heady holiday nights. There were sequin and beaded showgirl bikinis – perfect for that Ibiza pool party, feather trimmed chiffon capes and red carpet gowns cleverly draped to reveal as much as possible whilst still being “dressed”. With DJs and spray tans backstage, and G&Ts on tap, Macdonald is as irrepressible as ever. His aim? Giving everyone a moment of joyful light relief. London has had no sunshine since the beginning of the year but Macdonald, with his promise of happy holiday glamour, can only sparkle.
