Area: Ready-To-Wear SS26

It’s all change at Area. The New York label has a new creative director, Nicholas Aburn. Armed with a pretty stacked CV – previously working at the likes of Tom Ford and Balenciaga’s couture studio – Aburn takes over the reigns from Piotrek Panszczyk, co-founder of the brand, who departed in February.

Over the last decade, Area has carved a particular strand of OTT glamour, one that’s laced with humour and comes with exaggerated silhouettes and textural feasts. Thankfully, the fun is not lost on Aburn, who danced between brilliantly bonkers moments and seriously shoppable pieces. Like bedazzled sports jerseys Frankensteined together to create frocks that were draped effortlessly around the body. Or floor-length column dresses that bent into angular shapes at the shoulder.

All the glitzy work that we’ve come to love from the label was there, now seen via minidresses that appeared to be built from tangled diamond necklaces and one dress that was piled on with paillettes the size of dinner plates.

The show notes penned the collection as a day-to-night, then back to day again wardrobe, perfect for an inner-city hedonist. Like ripped-up denim jeans turned into dresses and mini-skirts, or even bags that shaped like pom poms. These are clothes that were designed to make every day feel like a party. Let the good times roll, Aburn!
